Enel Maritza East 3 TPP receives ISO 14001:2004 environmental management system certificate from SGS Bulgaria
- SGS Bulgaria certifies that the power plant operates in line with the world’s best practices for environmental management.
Sofia, December 21, 2009. Today, Enel Maritza East 3 received the ISO 14001:2004 certificate from SGS Bulgaria attesting that the power plant operates in line with the world’s best environmental management practices. The certificate was presented to John Clark, Enel Manager for Bulgaria and CEO of Enel Maritza East 3.The certificate was issued following successful evaluation of Enel Maritza East 3’s activities and documentation against ISO requirements.
Enel Maritza East 3 ISO 14001 certification meets the first strategic target of the Enel Group Environmental Policy on the implementation of internationally-certified environmental management systems within the entire Group.

The certification was obtained thanks to the team work of Enel’s staff in Bulgaria, the Group’s International Division, the External Relations Division and the Engineering and Innovation Division”.

A growing number of industry players, service organizations, utilities and public bodies worldwide are demonstrating environmental awareness by implementing internationally-certified environmental management systems. Certification helps them control the impact of their actions, products and services which is essential in order to protect the environment”.
Certified environmental management systems minimize the risk of environmental incidents and improve investors’ confidence. The certificate is a voluntary act, recommended by regulatory bodies as a tool to prevent environmental pollution and a guarantee of compliance with environmental legislation.

Originally founded in 1878 in Rouen as French grain shipment inspection house, SGS was registered in Geneva as Société Générale de Surveillance in 1919.
