Since 2003 Enel operates in the Balkan Region with the acquisition of a controlling stake in the Enel Maritza East 3 power plant. Since then the company has increased its attendance with a number of significant acquisitions in Romania and Greece and with the involvement in the development of various projects in the area.
Bulgaria and Southeast Europe are one of the key market areas for Enel because of their economic growth, natural resources and strategic location. Enel intends to continue to provide its contribution to the integration of these markets also with the rest of Europe by consolidating its presence and spending considerable efforts in renewables and environmentally friendly projects.
